Your homework this week is a 5 sentence challenge on EXPLORERS! Look at the picture and write 5 sentences about it! You could think about the questions below to help you!

At first I thought that the people that were naked were the enemies. BUT they were selling fish to the people on the big boat. I think they are explorers from England in the Pacific Ocean. I liked the billowing sails. I think the boat will go very fast with those sails.
The ship’s name is Resolution, it means determined. I think it’s a good name for an explorers ship. The tribes on the canoe’s were invading the ship because they wanted to have the treasure on the ship. The Queen gave the captain the treasure to exchange precious spices from The New World. There were 50 explorers and 30 tribes
But 15 explorers died and 17 tribes died, so in the end, the explorers won.
I think it could be Magellan’s ship, or maybe Francis Drakes or Captain Cooks. It looks like the native people are in the smaller boats. The explorers have just sailed into their seas, countries and territory’s on their voyage. A man is showing them a fish he could be offering them food. Everyone must be wondering if it is safe to anchor the boat?
The crew are standing on the deck, dressed in fine clothes.

The fishing boats look small against the big ship.
The fishermen are holding fish ,showing the sailors there catch.
I think they are trying to sell fish to the sailors.
I think a big sailing ship has spotted land and some of the explorers on board are trying to go ashore in their dinghy. They could have been looking for new countries in the Pacific ocean. They might have been at sea for a whole year and must be excited to see land. I noticed there is an interesting handmade wooden boat with strange skis on either side of it heading towards the big ship. These people could be the natives sailing out to investigate this strange arrival in their bay.
It makes me think that that I’m rocking in the ship like this BOOM BOOM CLATTER BASH! What I think what’s happening is that they are in trouble because there are lots of people trying to attack them with bows and arrows. They are in the sea because they want to kill people on boats and pirates. What I like about is there are lots of details and it looks like its realistic. There are two sails that are not unfurled. Why?
I can see lots of sailors, and the ship is called Resolution.
Some men have caught fish, I think they are offering them to the other people to be friendly.
I can see land, it looks like an island.
I think the ship is really old and really expensive.
I like the gold patterns on the ship it looks like it has lions on it.
Are the people on the ship explorers that we’ve learned about? On one of the smaller boats, there is a man with a multi-coloured jacket, unlike the others who are not wearing very much. I wonder what the jacket is for. On the same boat, a man is holding up a fish and I think he’s offering it to the people on the big ship. I think the two sides are greeting each other.
I think that that this picture is of a ship called resolution . There are people gathering around the ship who want to sell some fish.I am wondering what the explorers, who where on the ship found!Maybe it was the explorers first day on board. My mum says its Captain Cook’s ship.

It is James Cook’ s ship. I think the men are
communicating using the fish. They are probably somewhere near the Equator because it is nice and hot. I don’t know if the men are communicating with the boat behind RESOLUTION or RESOLUTION. I think they are Polynesian.
This was captain Cook’s ship the Resolution. They have just arrived at Hawaii in the Pacific ocean. They are just taking the sails in. The native people in the little boats are selling things to Cook’s crew. Next when they are in harbour they will drop anchor.
I see land in the distance. It looks like the natives are defending their country. The ship is Captain Cook’s. The people on the ship look like they are rich. The wood looks strong.
I notice that some of the people are in a rowing boat.
It makes me think of being at sea myself.
I like it because it is a great colours to me.
I don’t like the sail.
The ship is called Resolution.
The men in the small boats are selling fish to the sailors on the Resolution ship. They have garments that cover their private parts because its the best clothes for the hot climate. The sailors on the Resolution are wearing a lot of clothing they must have suffered a lot from the heat. I think they might be making friends. The Captain was called Captain Cook.
The people on board the RESOLUTION look like rich explorers. It is a gallion ship. I think the little boats are made of wood and there is a tusk on the side of the little boat to balance it. I think the rich explorers have come from England and are looking for gold, new plants and animals for the King. The people in the little boats are from a hot country but we will never discover where they live. They were bringing fish to trade for other foods like potatoes and carrots.
Captain Cook was on the ship. He explored the Pacific Ocean. The people on the little boats were offering fish to the sailors. captain cook died in Hawaii. How did he die?
The men selling fish look like they’re almost naked, which makes me think it must be very hot. I wonder, who is the captain of the big ship, he must be very hot with all of those clothes on! The ship is called Resolution but I want to know if there are any dogs on board. The details of the painting are amazing. Who is the artist, does anyone know?
I think that it is Sir Francis Drake on his expedition around the world. The men are on the little boats to catch fresh fish. I recognise the ship , it looks like captain James Cook’s ship.
This picture makes me think about explorers and adventurers. This could be any explorers’ boat.
The big ship is called Resolution. I noticed little boats coming to the ship. The men on the boats are half naked. The men are caring fish to offer to the people on the Resolution.
The people on the boat, and others like them have been exploring for thousands of years. Captain Cook was a very famous explorer. He sailed on a ship called the resolution with his crew. In 1779 James Cook was killed by natives of Hawaii. The resolution was eventually returned to England.
The other ship is sending a life boat to attack the boat in the picture so that they could steal their gold. The Resolution is sailing from Africa to the Pacific ocean to fight the French. The people on the life boat have bows and arrows so they could kill them!!! I’d like to sail around the world on this ship. On this ship I could go to America, which would be very exciting.
I think some of the crew are getting fish.
The crew are explorers , they have travelled a long way.
I think they are off to Australia.
This is an old wooden ship, so at this time, nobody had caught sight of Australia.
I think there would have been animals like chickens on the boat for eating.
