Mad about Maps on Hampstead Heath

We walked to the Heath and took part in a workshop called ‘Mad about Maps!’. It was a great day based on our Geography topic ‘We Love London’.

The workshop leaders started with a broad discussion about landmarks and how they help us identify a city or country. Children were then introduced to a map of the Secret Garden which included a map of the various features such as logs and a ‘bug hotel’ and were invited to explore the area in groups.

Children were encouraged to think like a pirate and had various tasks such as spotting shapes in the garden and plotting them on the map. Later children were tasked with placing treasure for their fellow pirates to find, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
