Keeping it EP this Week

Heat Heroes!

The weather meant lots of changes of plans this week, but we are proud of how well the children have worked and coped in the heat. We know that the high temperatures can affect sleep, mood, patience and concentration, yet the children have been exceptional in maintaining their positivity, kindness and self-regulation throughout the week.

Our staff have been so skilled in supporting the children to continue their learning at a gentler pace, with plenty of opportunities for rest, water-play and creative activities.

We have such a special school community and are so grateful to the families who lent us hoses, sprinklers and fans - they were very much appreciated. Thank you for the donations of ice lollies - a welcome treat for the children. We do hope they haven’t become an everyday expectation!

Year 1 and 2 concluded their block of swimming lessons and, as well as having enjoyed water-based learning in the heat, they have progressed their swimming so much across the fortnight.

More learning on the water for the Year 4 kayakers!

Recently some of our Year 3 and 4 mathematicians took part in the First Maths Challenge - a competition-style maths paper, focusing on problem-solving and logical reasoning. We were delighted that this year we had more entrants than ever before, and congratulations to everyone who took part. Those awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze certificates will be bringing these home. Year 4 can look forward to the Primary Maths Challenge as they enter Year 5!

Our Junior Engineer Competition finalists went to see their inventions on display at Kingston University yesterday! Well done to year group runners-up and congratulations to our Year 1 regional award winner. An extra special moment was when a golden envelope was opened to announce that a child in Year 4 had won the overall regional award! So inspiring and all fantastic achievements in such a prestigious competition.
