After School Club Playworker

This is a one year fixed term, term-time only post to cover maternity absence, with the salary pro rata to the number of weeks worked in a year and the number of hours worked in a week (15 hours per week), working 3pm to 6pm.

Salary & Benefits

Full time equivalent salary is based on NJC APT & C Scale 3, spine points 5-6, currently £32,021 - £32,476. Actual salary £11,939-£12,109. depending on prior experience.

Job Description

Playcentre team members are responsible for the day-to-day running of Eleanor Palmer Primary School’s after school club “Club EP”. They will liaise with the Playcentre Manager to organise and plan the play and leisure activities for children after school, as well as during the school holidays.

Our Playcentre team care for and supervise the children, making sure they are safe and happy.

Playcentre Team Member duties:

  • Assist in setting up the club to create a safe and secure play environment ready for when children arrive
  • Meeting and greeting children and collecting children from Infant and EYFS classrooms to ensure a smooth transition at the end of the school day
  • Signing in children on the register as they arrive and ensuring that children are signed out when collected by a known person
  • Communicating with parents/carers and/or teachers, as well as other key professionals
  • Supervise children effectively to ensure they are safe
  • Assist with for the day-to-day running of the club
  • Support a variety of play opportunities suitable for children aged 5 – 11 years
  • Participate in children’s play as and when requested by the children. This might include sports and physical games.
  • Deliver a range of exciting activities based on the children’s interests. This involves getting hands dirty when delivering messy play activities.
  • Prepare food and drinks for children in accordance to Environmental Health guidelines
  • Ensure Club EP follows school policies and procedures, as well as all other legal requirements, such as Health & Safety requirements
  • Complete accident and incident reports, as and when required, and ensure that parents and carers are informed of serious injuries, including all head injuries
  • Encourage children to participate in new activities to expand their interests
  • Encourage children to be fair and caring by leading by example
  • Encourage children’s independence and self-esteem through play
  • Celebrate diversity and promote inclusive practice
  • Tidying and clearing away at the end of session
  • Commitment to safeguarding the children in our care 

Person Specification

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Building positive and professional relationships
  • Caring and sensitive to children’s individual needs
  • Active and energetic. Prepared to get involved in children’s play.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with sufficient understanding of English to ensure the well-being of the children.
  • Team player and ability to use initiative
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Critical thinking and problem solving. A ‘can do’ approach to the role
  • Prepared to train and learn new skills
  • Good IT skills

 Desirable skills/qualifications

  • Current Paediatric First Aid certificate
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3
  • Basic safeguarding training
  • Health and allergen awareness
