Y6 visit RAF Hendon

To bring our learning about the Blitz and the Battle of Britain to life, Year 6 visited RAF Hendon this week.

We took part in a brilliant workshop – identifying and handling key objects from the Blitz and thinking about how Londoners’ daily lives were impacted by this devastating period. Then the air-raid siren sent us scurrying to the shelter where we stayed quiet until we heard the all-clear.

Afterwards, we explored the museum’s amazing display of British and German aircraft. We’ve learnt lots about the Supermarine Spitfires, so it was really memorable to see these first-hand.

The children also got to try on different RAF uniforms and learnt about the different roles and awards given to men and women who served.
