EP Highlights

There’s been lots of fantastic learning happening across EP this week. Years 2 and 5 enjoyed a visit from the Fire Brigade today, learning all about fire safety, prevention and how to stay safe at home. This is an important part of our wider work to help children understand how to keep themselves and others safe. As part of Black History Month, children in the Juniors joined the Great Big Live Assembly, celebrating Black history, community and inspiring role models. This year’s theme, Honouring Our Communities, encouraged children to think about the people who make a positive difference in their families, schools and wider communities.

Looking ahead to next week, some of our Key Stage 2 children will be joining a special online lesson with The British Museum to discover the fascinating history of the Bayeux Tapestry. With tickets to see the tapestry in person so hard to come by, what a fantastic opportunity to have a virtual front row seat to this remarkable piece of history! The lesson also coincides with the 960th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings on 14 October.

Meanwhile, Year 6 have been looking back on their wonderful week at Wick Court, producing some beautiful artwork inspired by the animals they cared for during their stay. It's been lovely to see their experiences brought to life through their art! And now it's Year 5's turn for an adventure as they head off to Gilwell Park for their three day residential next week.

Best wishes,
Natalie and Sally

Info and News

Wear Red Day - Friday 16th October

Next Friday 16th October, we will be joining schools and organisations across the country for Wear Red Day, organised by Show Racism the Red Card. The day is an opportunity to come together and show our support for anti-racism, equality and inclusion. We would love all children (and staff!) to wear something red to school on the day - this could be anything from a pair of red socks or a red hairband, right through to a completely red outfit! There is absolutely no need to buy anything especially for the day; anything red you already have at home will be perfect. We hope to see EP looking wonderfully red as we stand together to show that racism has no place in our school or community.

Early Reading and Phonics Talk - Friday 16th October 9:15 in the Lab

Helping children as they first learn to read is crucial, and we want to work together with adults at home so that all our children learn to read fluently and develop a love of books. Children read every day at school and all staff embed the value of reading - but there's lots you can do to help! Please join us to learn how early reading is taught at EP and take away key information to support your child's reading at home. It's important all Reception and Year 1 parents attend if possible.

You will learn about how approach to teaching phonics and reading, and be given a free phonics pack plus the opportunity to win a pack of wonderful picture books to enjoy with your child!
