Whole School Newsletter 27 February 2026
Keeping it EP this week…
EP has a legacy of developing new teachers and this week we hosted a group of UCL student teachers learning about how to teach reasoning and problem solving, and to watch classes from Y1-Y6 in action. They were bowled over by the skill of our teaching teams and our children’s resilience in tackling challenging problems. Here’s a wordle of what they saw!
Football news - CSSA Northern Football League Championships
Resilience was the name of the game for our boys’ team as they won the league, but were knocked out of the final having played with lots of heart. Well done to them all!
In spite of losing a game along the way, the girls’ team pushed through to lift the trophy and are both Northern League and Borough Champions!
We are immensely proud of our players and also of coaches Martin, Sophie and Jessie of course. The only downside is the lack of cabinets to display all our silverware - any carpenters and glaziers out there?
Huge thanks to parents for your pitchside support and encouragement to all children taking part. What teamwork!
Green Dragons’ Den
A group of change-makers from Year 5 presented a pitch to the ‘Green Dragons’- 6 local business leaders and community members - in a bid to secure funding for an EP Eco Club. The team had to deliver a
detailed presentation and field questions from the dragons to persuade them to invest. Did the ecopreneurs get an offer? We’re waiting to find out!
Fantastic trips too in Year 6 to The RAF Museum to support their learning about World War II, and for Year 2 to The Ragged School to experience life as a Victorian school child.
World Book Day Book next Thursday 5th March!
World book day is always a fantastic day of smiles and stories. Costumes are encouraged and celebrated, but not compulsory and without competition. Thank you to everyone who has supported the costume-swap.
We will of course have a WBD assembly celebrating all things reading, crafty and creative book ideas in class, and the bell will be rung to remind us to ‘drop everything and read!’ throughout the day. At the end of the day there will be a FREE book giveaway in the playground.
Children are also invited to decorate a potato as their favourite book character to bring to the Lab on the day.
Guidelines:
- use a real potato as the base
- decorations only (no cooking required!)
- please include your child’s name somewhere on the potato
We can’t wait to see all the spudtacular book characters!
And, because every day is a good day for a story, next Tuesday booksellers from Muswell Hill Bookshop will be here to sell a range of children’s books. Gates will open early at 3:15pm to allow some child-free browsing ahead of pick-up.
Next Friday’s Snack Sale will be to celebrate World Book Day - this is a whole school sale, so please all offer support.

Information and Diary Dates
Inventors wanted! Big ideas start with curious minds
This week in assembly children have been exploring the world of engineering. Many are now keen to enter the Primary Engineer Leaders’ Award 2026, a national competition with around 48,000 entrants each year.
Children are invited to answer the question: ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’. They must design a solution to a real problem.
To enter:
- Draw and label the invention with your name, year group and invention name on the back.
- Write a persuasive pitch letter on a separate sheet, in best handwriting or typed and with spellings checked
We know that our children are brimming with ideas and hope to see lots of brilliant inventions. We’ve had lots of regional winners in the past, with designs displayed and awarded at Kingston University.
Entries to Craig in Year 1 by Monday 16 March.
Whilst feeling inventive, it’s time to start thinking about egg-mobile ideas for the Great Egg Race on the last day of term - more news to follow.
Quiz Night - Thursday 23rd April 7-9:30pm
We’re excited about our first Quiz Night in April, a fundraiser to support the rebuilding of the playground tower. Cocktails and delicious food on sale. Buy single tickets for £15 or buy a team table for 8 people for £100. Fantastic news is that every £ raised will be match funded.
Brain teasers and big laughs to Raise the Tower!
Don’t miss your chance to take part - click here for your ticket!
Help us grow
Spring has truly sprung this week with sunny days and lots of new things growing on our site and beyond. We wanted to ask if families could donate an indoor plant such as a monstera that the children can care for… help us bring nature indoors. Even better if it has a nice pot!
Breakfast Club reminder
Please make sure that Breakfast Club is booked in advance through Arbor. We often have up to 10 children arrive without bookings and sometimes need to find staff cover last minute. If you have booked a place, please drop off before 8:30am so that there is time to eat before heading to class. Contact the office if you need any help with club bookings. Thank you!
