For Refugee Week, children reflected on the idea of courage — not just as something loud or bold, but as something that can be shown quietly every day: in facing new places, learning new languages, asking for help, sharing stories and welcoming others. In assembly, we thought about how small actions can help build bridges rather than walls: listening properly, reading stories that help us see through new eyes, sharing food, playing together, walking in solidarity and making space for questions and conversations. As part of our Day of Welcome today, we will be encouraging children to think about how we can all help make our school a place where everyone feels they belong.

We’re making the most of outdoor learning now that summer has finally arrived! - Year 1 went pond-dipping at the Heath and both Reception and Year 4 visited the Zoo to learn about how animals are adapted to habitats. Year 3 continued their forest school workshops using natural tinders from plants for fire lighting, and Year 4 took to the water for kayaking

Years 1 and 2 have made so much progress in week 1 of their swimming lessons - such an important life skill.

In school assembly Joanna, a flautist from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, showed children the soprano, alto, concert and piccolo flutes and the different sounds they produce.

Partnership Update - Team Hawley and EP!

As we enter the final weeks of this term we wanted to introduce a regular update about the work that we do with our partner school, Hawley, to make both our schools fantastic places where children love learning, achieve excellence and belong! Over the last three weeks, teachers have learnt more about problem solving and reasoning in maths from Nursery to Year 6. Our teachers gain so much from working together as a larger team across the two schools and this results in better learning outcomes for all of our children. Ask your children about problem solving maths lessons and how they are stretched and challenged!

News and Info

Heat Next Week

We have of course been discussing the predicted heatwave next week and how best to look after the children.

Plans in place -

  • Blinds in classroom are remaining closed where possible.
  • Rooms will be kept as ventilated as possible.
  • We are refilling water jugs throughout the day and encouraging children to keep hydrated. Much like at the World Cup we will have ‘hydration breaks’!
  • PE will be gentle movement and not the usual full workout!
  • There will be the option for children to stay inside at lunch break to stay out of the heat.
  • Lots of water based play in early years.

Teaching and learning will of course continue, but our lessons will be structured with tired and uncomfortably hot children in mind.

Reminders:

  • Children must have water bottles in school every day.
  • Please apply suncream before school
  • Bring and wear sunhats in school

We’d prefer children not to bring in the electric hand-held fans as these are easily broken and cause distraction.
