Whole School Newsletter 16 10 26

Year 5 have had an exhilarating three day visit to Gilwell Park in Waltham Abbey. It has been a trip full of exploration, co-operation and adventure, and as children return home today they will bring back wonderful stories and memories to share!

It was whizz, pop and bang for Years 1-3 at the amazing chemistry show with Dr Szydlo, inspiring the children about the power of chemistry. Some believed that his experiments were magic, but he explained that it was all the wonder of science!

More wonderful natural science in Nursery this week as we were visited by a parakeet who spent the morning on the climbing frame, allowing us an up-close nature study. We hope that Nursery’s fruit snacks tempt it back!

Year 6 toured Parliament, learning so much about history, democracy and how our laws are made. Children saw the Speaker, Rt. Honorable Lindsay Hoyle, and had the chance to sit in The House of Lords. Our new MP Sagal Abdi-Wali, who had only been sworn in on the previous day, met the class and was impressed by their carefully considered questions. A brilliant, informative trip and no cries of ‘Order!’ needed.

Best wishes,
Natalie and Sally

Show Racism the Red Card

Children and staff wore red ribbons or clothes today as we found out more about Show Racism the Red Card, an anti-racism educational charity. Founded with footballer Shaka Hislop, the charity looks at how education can challenge racism in society. In football children understand a red card being used to stop something that is wrong. The charity teaches the concepts of respect and inclusion, using the symbolism of the red card to actively oppose and stop racism.

Author Massimo Fenati visiting Year 1-3 Friday 23rd

Massimo Fenati will be visiting Years 1-3 to talk about his PiriPenguins books following the success of his Piripenguins series on CBeebies. We're excited for the children to hear from a real author, ask questions about his career and see a live draw-along of his characters! Massimo will also be signing copies of his books for purchase from 3:20pm.
