Keeping it EP this Week
It has been a joyful and very full week in school, with so many moments that capture what we mean by loving learning, achieving excellence and belonging at EP.
Our Infants’ Singing Festival filled the school with music, as children from EP and visiting schools sang together so beautifully in harmony, and we also had a wonderful Junior Strings Concert with ukuleles and violins. Our Year 5 and 6 Athletics Team won the Small School’s Cup at the Camden competition and Year 4 completed their final kayaking trip today, showing confidence, courage and teamwork on the water. Year 5 also treated us to a wonderful class assembly, celebrating learning from across the year — from rainforests, through Viking and Anglo-Saxon history, all the way to outer space. It was a lovely reminder of the breadth and richness of the curriculum children experience at EP.
We have also seen such kindness and thoughtfulness from the children this week. A group of Year 6 children spotted a dolls’ house at the summer fair and decided to upcycle it for Joe’s baby daughter. A group of Year 5 children noticed how tirelessly the kitchen staff were working in very hot conditions and made them a thank-you card. Another group of children spoke so passionately and eloquently about the ways they learn to keep themselves safe, and how adults at EP help and support them, during our governor monitoring of safeguarding. They are tremendous children, and we love working with them. What a privilege it is!
We have three new teachers who feel exactly the same and cannot wait to work with EP children and join Team EP! Laura, Rachel and Emily joined us for two days of induction this week to learn about how we work as a school and to meet the children. We hope you had a chance to say hello! Laura will be coming back on Tuesday 14th since so many of Year 5 were at the Athletics competition.
Thank you, too, to our wonderful PTA and to everyone who came, helped, donated and contributed to the Summer Fair. Events like this are a huge part of the sense of belonging at EP. They bring families, staff and children together, and remind us what a strong and generous community we are. The totals are still being counted, but it looks like more than £5k has been raised! A reminder that the online auction is still live until Monday so please keep bidding. Bid here until Monday 13th
This week’s Parent Progress Meetings have also been an important chance to pause and reflect on each child’s year: to celebrate their learning, recognise their development and talk together about what comes next. We hope parents value these conversations as much as we do. They are an important part of the partnership between home and school, helping us work together to give every child the best possible education.
Next week, we say goodbye to our tremendous Year 6 — the class of 2026. These final days of primary school are always full of mixed feelings. The children are ready and excited for the next stage, while those of us who have watched them grow want to hold on to the memories for just a little longer. They leave EP with so much to be proud of: excellent outcomes, certainly, but also confidence, curiosity, kindness and a real willingness to take every opportunity offered to them.
At EP, we want learning to be both ambitious and accessible: rich enough to stretch children’s thinking, while carefully taught so that everyone can take part and succeed. This has been clear in Year 6’s journey through the school. Alongside their achievements in reading, writing and maths, they have explored rivers and ancient civilisations, asked big philosophical questions, performed, travelled, collaborated, led and contributed so much to the life of the school. We hope they leave with wider horizons, strong foundations and a deep sense that they belong, achieve and love learning. We know they are ready for what comes next.
Finally, this week both EP and Hawley governing bodies have been hearing more about the work teachers and leaders are doing together through our partnership. It is a very exciting way to work: two equally strong schools supporting one another, learning from each other, and continuing to stay proudly unique. We look forward to continuing and deepening this partnership next year.
As we move into the final week of term, thank you, as ever, for being part of this very special school community.
